PCP may be making a comeback. Kulick points out that Hunter S. Thompson wouldn't take the stuff; he thought it was too dangerous. Yes, HUNTER S. THOMPSON wouldn't take PCP. That's hardcore.

Is it "better" or "worse" than crystal meth? I mean, that's also seen a resurgence, and it's just about as damaging as drinking drain cleaner.

Damn, I don't know. I just know PCP by reputation -- it had its heyday in the late 70s, early 80s -- as the Drug to Take if You Want to Die and Take Half the Neighborhood with You. It was never that popular because it scared the shit out of people (and those who used it got themselves killed off). But what do I know?

I guess, in reading the link provided and beyond, PCP is the more devastating, though it seems to have fewer long-term consequences (because no one lives long enough to get to any). I guess that's why PCP freaks were the go-to villains or stand-ins for some older fictional works. Scary.

But yeah, what I meant to really get at is why are we seeing an upswing in use of a really, really damaging (physically and psychologically) class of drugs? We'll never totally stamp out drug use, but PCP!? Meth!? What are people thinking?
